Wanda K. Jones, Principal Delegate of the United States assumes the presidency
of the Inter American Commission of Women (CIM)

Wanda K. Jones, who since 2008 has represented the United States of America as a principal delegate to the Inter American Commission of Women (IACW), has assumed the presidency of the Commission upon the departure of Laura Albornoz of Chile’s National Service for Women (SERNAM). Ms Albornoz resigned her position as President of the IACW in order to serve as a spokesperson for the presidential campaign of Eduardo Frei.

Dr. Jones has dedicated many years to the defense of human rights and the promotion of gender equality. She currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for Health at the United States’ Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), as well as Director of the Office of Women’s Health (OWH). The goal of the OWH is to provide leadership in the promotion of health equity for women and young girls in areas such as violence, disability, HIV/AIDS and mental health, among others.
